JSC Belaruskali acknowledges the particular nature of its activities, understands the importance of environmental protection and pays special attention to these issues. The Company's specialists believe that environmental protection is the basis for achieving sustainable development of the company for the benefit of the present and future generations. Accordingly, protecting the environment from the negative impact of production is one of the Company's top priorities.
In order to mitigate the environmental impact of the company's operations, an effective environmental management system was introduced and certified to ISO 14001 in 2001.
To ensure environmental safety, the company's divisions use modern high-tech equipment, implement advanced measures to compensate for the negative impact of mining operations on the landscape and infrastructure facilities, reduce emissions of pollutants and greenhouse gases into the atmosphere and the volume of production waste, and use the latest achievements in environmental protection.
In order to obtain unbiased and complete information on the state of the environment and the effectiveness of the environmental protection measures taken, environmental monitoring is carried out for sources of impact and environmental objects: atmospheric air, surface and underground waters, soils, land surface subsidence, etc.
In order to implement the environmental policy, the Company carries out a significant amount of work on capital construction of environmental facilities, approves and implements the activities of the annual and prospective programmes on environmental protection of JSC Belaruskali, carries out systematic and regular work on the efficient use of natural resources, reducing the impact of production on the environment.
THE MAIN AREAS TO ELIMINATE OR REDUCE THE NEGATIVE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT OF POTASH PRODUCTION IN THE REGION INCLUDE:
- the widespread use of selective mining of minefields;
- engineering protection of land, settlements and production facilities located in the undermined area;
- high-altitude storage of halite waste;
- injecting excess brines into the absorbing levels;
- introducing high-efficiency flue gas cleaning methods and taking over the Company's fuel-consuming facilities for natural gas
- recycling of wastewater in the technical water supply of the company.
